The New Toyota Corolla vs. the Honda Civic

The Toyota Corolla Shows Up the Honda Civic in Side-by-Side Comparison

The Toyota Corolla is a mainstay on the streets of Maumee and Perrysburg. A go-to choice for generations of American drivers, the small Corolla sedan has a lot to offer, and continues to get better every year. At Jim White Toyota, we're big fans of the Corolla lineup, and we want to help you get to know it better.

If you're shopping around for a new affordable sedan, and you're torn between the plethora of options available today, we can help. Here, we've taken our favorite Corolla sedan and compared it next to another popular model, the Honda Civic. We've found a number of areas where our car beats the competition, and we hope it helps you when you make your next car-buying decision.

Corolla vs. Civic

  • Passenger space and comfort. The Toyota Corolla may be a small sedan, but it's incredibly spacious and comfortable on the inside. For example, it easily beats the Honda Civic in legroom and comfort, with more than 41 inches of legroom in the backseat of the Corolla, compared to just 37 inches in the rear of the Civic.
  • Options and hybrid power. Both of these model nameplates give Oregon drivers a range of choices that include different engines, trims, and features. But only the Corolla offers a new hybrid powertrain option. The Honda Civic was available with hybrid technology in years past, but it was discontinued. The optional 1.8-liter four-cylinder Corolla gas engine that works with two electric motor-generators for a total system rating of 121 horsepower makes the Toyota stand out next to the Honda Civic.
  • Efficiency. Even without the bonus of a hybrid option, the Toyota Corolla sedan is more efficient than the Honda Civic. The Civic base four-cylinder engine earns an estimated EPA rating of 29 mpg combined, while the Corolla base four-cylinder gets around 33 mpg combined. This breaks down to 30 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway for the Toyota, compared to just 25 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway for the Honda.
